Eight years ago, the Samobor Music  Festival, along with the Ferdo Livadić International Competition of Young Musicians, started the New Note International Composers Competition.
The 2019 competition was called with the Cantus Ensemble in mind as they will be the ones to first perform the winning composition. The 25 compositions that applied were assessed by a panel that included Nikša Gligo, Berislav Šipuš and Srećko Bradić and the first prize went to the composition Dogs by a young Japanese composer Wataru Mukai.

The piece will be first performed in Samobor at the 44th Samobor  Autumn festival, as part of the concert by the Cantus Ensemble held on 1 October 2019. At the same concert, Katarina Kutnar, violinist and last-year’s winner of another Samobor competition, Ferdo Livadić International Competition of Young Musicians, will also perform with the Cantus Ensemble in a new composition by Davor Bobić, Croatian composer and a member of the HDS – Hrvatsko društvo skladatelja / Croatian Composers' Society, and in the Concerto for violin by Alban Berg.
