The Croatian Composers’ Society has many milestones and anniversaries in 2020 and the 2020/21 season. In addition to celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Cantus Ensemble, the Music Biennale Zagreb, the birthplace of the ensemble, is also celebrating its grand 60th anniversary.
All of this would not come about if not for the composers who have gathered, united and established the Croatian Composers’ Society 75 years ago.
On this concert, the Ensemble will remember some of the more important ones, as well as those with whom it has frequently collaborated, such as Silvio Foretić and Ruben Radica. We will again have the privilege of hearing the performance of the Ensemble’s almost-permanent collaborator, mezzo soprano Martina Gojčeta Silić, in Valse macabre by Silvio Foretić, an extremely interesting piece considering the current pandemic.
And in the Concertino by Natko Devčić, the Ensemble will accompany their own long-time concert master, violinist Ivan Novinc. This concert will also be an opportunity to hear for the first time a new piece by a young composer and percussionist Šimun Matišić, with soprano Marta Schwaiger as a soloist.
