Cantus Ensemble at the festival La Biennale di Venezia performs Matteo Franceschini
The musical segment of the program of the Biennale di Venezia, one of the most important and most prestigious modern festivals, will be held from 27 September to 6 October 2019.
The winners of the famous “lion” award for 2019 are the British composer George Benjamin, who received the Golden Lion for the lifetime achievement in music, and the Italian composer Matteo Franceschini, who received the Silver Lion for music.
Franceschini’s work will be presented by none other than the Croatian Cantus Ensemble together with the Icarus Ensemble from Italy. After the award ceremony held on 3 October at the prime time, the Cantus Ensemble and the Icarus Ensemble will premiere Franceschini’s new work Songbook at the Teatro Toniolo Mestre.
This will not be their first collaboration as they have also been cooperating through program exchange and ensemble fusion in order to achieve distinctiveness of sound, experience and approach to contemporary music. One such joint project was the performance at this year’s 30th Music Biennale Zagreb with a program entirely dedicated to another Italian composer Ivan Fedele on 8 April in Lauba.
Concert is programed also as part of the festival Aperto (Reggio Emilia) in Teatro Cavallerizza, the 5th of October.
