CANTUS ENSEMBLE & RE:NEW MUSIC
RE:NEW MUSIC (http://www.renewmusic.org/) is a cultural project based on 12 international partners and 22 ensembles from 11 European countries, creating a platform for over 170 performances per year as well as numerous composer workshops and residences.
Opera Transcending Time by the American composer Orlando Jacinto Garcia
The opera Transcending Time by the American composer Orlando Jacinto Garcia was performed on the Music Biennale (April 22nd) with great success to a half-empty auditorium of the Gavella Theatre. According to the author, this non-narrative opera does not share any concrete features with the usual perception of the genre, except for its title.
Cantus Ensemble on the 25th Music Biennale Zagreb
The first Biennale Saturday, April 17th, began with Schoenberg's Ode to Napoleon based on the text by George Gordon Byron. The work was performed by baritone Josip Lešaja and the Cantus Ensemble in their first appearance at the festival, with several more planned to follow, under the baton of Ivan Josip Skender. Before they performed, actress Urša Raukar read the Ode which was translated into Croatian by Enisa Hadrović.
Canadian tour
In June 2008 the Cantus Ensemble will go on a tour of Canada, where they are scheduled to appear in Toronto. The ensemble will give four concerts in order to intensify the collaboration between the Canadian and Croatian music institutions as well as to present Croatian music beyond the European borders.
