CANTUS ENSEMBLE AND YOUNG CROATIAN MUSICIANS
From its earliest days Cantus Ensemble has supported young musicians. In the first few years workshops were organized during the summer months on the island Vis and in Zagreb. The workshops were to be home to the work in progress by Croatian and international composers. In 2007, the workshops were moved to Grožnjan - international cultural centre of Croatia's music youth - focusing on young composers and conductors.
Cantus's workshops were attended by many young Croatian musicians, conductors Ivan Josip Skender, Davorin Brozić, Josip Nalis, Filip Pavišić, to name a few, and composers Mirela Ivičević, Danijel Legin, Ante Knešaurek and others. They were involved in different projects such as, for example, European network ReNew Music, but also performed in concerts.
It is of essence to mention that Cantus Ensemble premiered all compositions written by young composers nominated for the Josip Štolcer Slavenski Award in 2009.
In addition, the Čakovec Cultural Centre and the Ivana Brlić Mažuranić Hall in Slavonski Brod included in their music programmes concerts featuring contemporary music performed by Cantus Ensemble. The Ensemble's guest performances will feature its string quintet and wind quintet, who will be led by the young conductor and clarinetist Davorin Brozić. The programme will include international works such as the wind sextet The Young by Leoš Janaček and Opus Number ZOO by Luciano Berio, but also pieces by Croatian composers Ivo Josipović and Berislav Šipuš, and Krešo Seletković's premiere performance of his new piece in his hometown, Slavonski Brod.
