Croatian artists in Belgrade

Cantus Ensemble has shown many times that it has become a real brand, an ensemble which – not only in domestic, but also in international circles  – through its programs combines the most recent with the most exclusive, alternative, off-scene with classical and anthological. Concert repertoire of this ensemble is not valuable just because of the exceptional range of orders for new works, or because of the immense number of the first performances, but because the ensemble is performing core scores of the 20th and 21st century. It is often the case that Cantus Ensemble premieres some compositions on Croatian stages or that some compositions of their active repertoire were last heard in Zagreb more than half a century ago.

So it happened that Hindemith’s Four Temperaments for piano and strings and Stravinsky’s burlesque Renard, which Cantus Ensemble with guest soloists performed on the 6th of June 2010, in small hall Vatroslav Lisinski as a part of their own concert cycle Cantus & Lisinski, excited everyone present at that concert. And there were many people present because exactly that concert was selected to crown the two-day’s meeting of the regional festivals with President of Croatia Ivo Josipović under the organization of the Croatian Composers’ Society and European Festivals Association EFA. Guests of the concert were also members of ISPA (International Society of Performing Arts) who chose Zagreb last June for their annual meeting.

This concert was also a further motive to continue with the good cooperation between Croatian Composers’ Society and Jugokoncert from Belgrade, which has taken over and in one part upgraded the concert program of 6th of June. So, next Thursday, 15th of September, beginning at 8 pm, in the hall of Kolarčeva zadužbina in Belgrade, we once again have a chance to hear both Hindemith and Stravinsky, but also a new piece Canti di vita e morte by the Serbian composer Predrag Repanić as well as Riffs and Melodies, Chord and some Rumors… but not Fugue, nor Prelude by Berislav Šipuš, who will also be conducting the orchestra Strings of St. Geogre. Soloist at the piano will be Rita Kinka, and from Zagreb, Reynard, Rooster, Goat and Cat, better to say tenors Domagoj Dorotić and Stjepan Franetović, baritone Alen Ruško and bass Ivica Trubić will travel to Belgrade.
